Comparing research bots: Researcher, Researchy and Primer
All three bots deal with information, but their public descriptions point to different work. This comparison analyzes archived positioning. It does not treat author promises as verified runtime results or assign rankings without a comparative test.
1. Identify the kind of research you need
Researcher Bot emphasizes sub-questions, citations, contradictions and information gaps. Researchy Bot explicitly mentions live search through the Grok Build CLI. “Latest model” is the author’s wording at the time and needs checking on the actual platform. Primer Bot focuses on Grok Bot and its surrounding tools, prioritizing official documentation, UI paths and local files.
2. Give each bot the same checkable question
For example: “Using these three official product documents, compare export capabilities. Include supported formats, limitations, original links and unresolved questions.” Provide the same materials and output requirements. Begin without account mutations or email sending so you can focus on reading and evidence quality.
3. Check individual claims, not just fluency
Does each important conclusion have a source that directly supports it? Are the dates appropriate? Where does the answer turn an inference into a fact? When sources conflict, does it preserve both sides? Record correct, unresolved, unsupported or contradicted claims in a table before inventing a precise-looking overall score.
4. Choose a workflow that fits your task
For product-operation questions, start by evaluating Primer’s stated focus. For cross-source research, examine Researcher’s sub-question and evidence approach. For live search, assess Researchy after confirming its dependencies are available. Make the final choice from your own small trial, not from the order of names on this page.
| Bot | Public description emphasizes | Check during a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Researcher Bot | Sub-questions, citations, contradictions and gaps | Whether evidence directly answers each sub-question |
| Researchy Bot | Live web research through Grok Build CLI | Whether search actually runs and dependencies are configured |
| Primer Bot | Grok Bot documentation, UI and local files | Whether it names precise sources and acknowledges uncertainty |
Evidence and limits
This analysis uses three public cards and Primer’s directory prompt. We have not run these three bots in a live comparison. Open the listings below to inspect the authors’ original text and follow their source links.
